About
Modern classic rock artist Chelsea Sica does things in her own time. Take birth, for example. “I was born two weeks late—I came out on my own terms,” NYC-based singer-songwriter says with a good-natured laugh. Fittingly, Chelsea, a lifelong performer, came to record her debut album exactly when she was ready and not a moment before. Chelsea's experience as an actor framed a powerful arc from her start as a promising young performer to stepping forward as a confident modern Southern California 70's influenced rock n’ roll artist. Her honey saturated, satiny belt spills out about recovering herself after a string of unlucky relationships and finding what matters most on her latest album.
Chelsea’s journey has been informed and guided by a deep knowledge, devotion, and connection to the practice of Astrology. This lifestyle imbues her music with a sense of grandeur and mysticism, similarly spirited to that magical age of 1960s and 1970s rock n’ roll. Today, Chelsea contributes to the beloved classic rock, a tradition, a modern flair, a theatrical sensibility, dynamically expressive vocals, engaging personal revelatory lyrics, and a penchant for being heartfelt and hooky. Relationships are a main theme in Chelsea’s writing, and she sagely writes about romantic connections, friendships, and self-knowledge. “I go with my gut as a writer. Writing is a catharsis and a form of therapy for me,” she enthusiastically spouts.
The album’s emotional centerpiece is “Only One,” an ambitious pop-rock track that recalls the emotive flair of Lady Gaga. The song is a first-love epic with a tragic ending. “I said a lot of things to this guy I wish I never said. He struggled with addiction, and I thought I would hear from him during a 12-step process, but, instead, I found out he died. I wish I could have had one final conversation to tell him how important he was to me, and how I loved and cared for him,” Chelsea confesses. Select standouts from her upcoming debut album include “Dead As Disco,” “Pheromones,” “Scorpio Moon,” and “Only One.” The track “Dead As Disco” is a swaggering, piano-driven power-ballad in the opulent tradition of Queen and Elton John, replete with vocals that upsweep from angelic to dramatically sensual. The ethereally seductive “Pheromones” is arranged with soaring climaxes that are the perfect showcase for Chelsea’s powerhouse pipes. This is an ill-fated attraction song. “It’s about an ex I couldn’t stand, but couldn’t get away from. We had this unexplained attraction, like pheromones,” Chelsea explains. “I felt like if I saw him again I would want to punch him in the face and then make out with him.” The track “Scorpio Moon” is a theatrically-arranged, haunting ballad centered around Chelsea’s Astrological makeup. Key takeaway: she will freeze you out if you get on her bad side; there are no second chances with Chelsea’s affection.
Chelsea lives in New York and hopes to start touring soon.
